Sermon: Genesis 22:1-18 - "To Have Abraham's God"
Benedictus (the Te Deum is omitted for Lent)
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel;
for He has visited, and redeemed His people
and has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of His servant David,
as He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
who have been since the world began;
that we should be saved from our enemies
and from the hand of all that hate us;
to perform the mercy promised to our fathers
and to remember His holy covenant,
the oath that He swore to our forefather Abraham
to grant us that we,
being delivered out of the hand of our enemies,
might serve Him without fear,
in holiness and righteousness before Him
all the days of our life.
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways;
to give knowledge of salvation to His people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
through the tender mercy of our God;
when the days shall dawn upon us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.

O Lord God, you led your ancient people through the wilderness and brought them to the promised land. Guide the people of your Church that, following our Saviour, we may walk through the wilderness of this world toward the glory of the world to come; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
Heavenly Father, as we enter this Lenten season of repentance and renewed devotion, we pray that You would remember us according to Your steadfast love and goodness in Christ and instruct and lead us by Your Spirit in Your ways so that we may repent and believe the Gospel; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
Lord God, You placed the wood of the cross on the back of Your only begotten Son, that as the promised offspring of Abraham He might possess the gates of hell. Bless, we pray, His Church and all those called to preach and teach within her with the certainty that those gates cannot prevail against them, that in faith they may boldly trample every power of the enemy underfoot; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

O most loving Father, You want us to give thanks for all things, to fear nothing except losing You, and to lay all our cares on You, knowing that You care for us. Strengthen us in our faith in You. Grant that the fears and
anxieties of this mortal life may not separate us from Your love shown to us in Your beloved Son. We pray, bestow Your abundant blessings upon Joan, Anne, Milan and Eileen, Gustav, and Marion; also Rachel, John, Zoltan, Oskar, Grace, Hedwig and the family of Elizabeth Reidl; through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, You have safely brought us to the beginning of this day; defend us in the same with Your mighty power and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings, being ordered by Your governance, may be righteous in Your sight; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
